Main Background :
Dubai launched the highly anticipated Metro Blue Line project, a 30-kilometre strategic addition to the city railway network for operation on September 9, 2029. The launch will come on the 20th anniversary of the Red Line opening of the Metro, as the city’s search for constant growth in the area of public transport. The Blue Line shall have 14 stations—nine on the above-ground level and five below-ground level—connecting strategic residential and commercial hubs, such as Mirdif, International City, Al Warqa, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai Festival City.
The line shall increase daily mobility by a significant extent and will reduce traffic congestion. The line would be perfectly integrated with current Red and Green Metro lines, which would benefit Dubai in making it a transit city. Among the unique features would be a 1.3-kilometre overpass over Dubai Creek and a showpiece underground station at Dubai Creek Harbour. The station has been designed by international world-class architects and would be a new architectural icon.
AED 20.5 billion Blue Line has been awarded to an international contracting consortium and will have 28 cutting-edge trains with passenger capacity of up to 988. Operating and completed mode, Blue Line will transport 200,000 to 2030 and 320,000 to 2040 passengers per day. The estimated travel time between key nodes like Dubai International Airport and Dubai Silicon Oasis is 10 to 25 minutes.
Aligned with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the D33 Economic Agenda, the project supports the vision of a “20-minute city,” where 80% of key services are accessible within 20 minutes. The new stations will meet platinum-grade green building standards, reinforcing Dubai’s emphasis on sustainability. The expansion will increase the total length of the Metro network from 101 km to 131 km, solidifying Dubai’s role as a global leader in smart urban mobility.
